New Year's Message from Stockton South Labour

A New Year's message from Nigel Cooke, Chairman of Stockton South Labour Party:

"What a terrific year for Stockton South Labour Party!

In January our constituency was saved from the chop when Boundary Commission proposals were dumped by Parliament and in July we chose our Parliamentary Candidate for the General Election in May 2015. Louise Baldock, who was brought up locally and has lived or worked in Yarm, Eaglescliffe, Stockton and Thornaby, now living in Ingleby Barwick, is one of the most experienced and passionate Labour campaigners in the country.

With her leadership, we have knocked on 3500 doors and spoken to huge numbers of local people about their issues and priorities.
We have campaigned on the cost of living crisis they face with mounting bills while their pay fails to keep pace and we celebrated Labour’s pledge to scrap the Bedroom Tax in 2015 in the best way possible – by playing an active role in resolving difficult situations for lots of tenants. We have also collected 200kg of food for local food banks from generous local residents and have begun a campaign to sign up more savers to our local Credit Union.

It was a privilege to welcome the leader of the Labour Party, Ed Miliband, to Stockton to talk particularly to small businesses about Labour’s plans to support them and we have been blessed with many other visits from key MPs too.

But it is not all hard work, we also give time to socialising, building the best team spirit, encouraging our members and supporters to bond with each other across the constituency and truly feel part of our Labour family.

32 people have joined the Labour Party in our constituency this year and we look forward to signing up our 300th member in 2014. We also added 99 names to our Roll of Honour – people who have volunteered to support our campaign. We are looking forward to meeting our 100th volunteer, could it be you?

2013 has been a vital year for us, we look forward to 2014 with fire in our bellies!"
