Visit to Thornaby Shri Guru Nanak Gurdwara and Sikh Community Centre

I was delighted to visit the Shri Guru Nanak Gurdwara and Sikh Community Centre in Thornaby on Saturday.

The Sikh community wanted to talk to me about their own manifesto and because I know Tom Watson, Labour candidate/MP has worked closely with his local Sikh community I asked him to come with me. We were very warmly welcomed, particularly Tom who is apparently internationally renowned in Sikh circles, and after the manifesto was presented to me, we both made short speeches and answered questions. I was interested to hear that 92% of the congregation are graduates with many working in medicine or small businesses so we had some obvious topics to talk about.

A big thank you to Mr Jagra for organising the visit for us. I am looking forward to developing a good long term relationship with the community.
